As part of the United Church of Christ, we emphasize local control in all areas of our church life. We believe in Christ as the cornerstone of our faith, the great importance of scripture, and the working of the Holy Spirit within us, our church, and the world today. We celebrate two sacraments: Baptism (for infants, youth, and adults at anytime in their lives) and Holy Communion (the Lord’s Supper, the Eucharist). Holy Communion, which is celebrated on the first Sunday of each month, is open to all people attending the service. For our homebound, the clergy and deacons bring communion to them afterwards.
Our church service includes singing hymns, confessing, sharing the peace, hearing scriptures, hearing the sermon (Sunday message), offering of our prayers and gifts, and the sending forth (benediction). Music, which is very important throughout the service, also concludes our worship as we join together in singing Alleluia.
For hymns, we use both The New Century Hymnal and Favorite Hymns and Praise Songs (our own hymn supplement, light blue cover). Bibles are in every pew for those who wish to follow along during the scripture readings. Also, earphones for the hearing-impaired and large-print bulletins are available at the Visitors’ Desk in the entrance area to the church.
